How to Make Almond Milk at Home
I am making my own almond milk at home.
It is very easy. It takes about 15 minutes or less.
I am not happy with the choice of almond milk we have here in health food shops. When you read the label there are so many chemicals and sugar in it. So, I prefer my own, healthy almond milk.
1 cup fo raw almonds
1 tbs of maple syrup or honey
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3 cups of water
Bowl and Colander
Cheese cloth or fine mesh nut bag
Blender or a food processor
Soak the almonds overnight or if you like, up to two days.
The longer you soak them the creamer the milk.
Drain the almonds from their soaking water and rinse them well. Don’t use the soaking water because it contains physic acid, which inhibits the body’s ability to absorb nutrients.
Place the almonds in a blender and add 3 cups of water. Blend at the highest speed for about 2 minutes.
Strain the almonds. Line the strainer with cheese cloth, and place over a bowl. Pour the almond mixture into the strainer.
Gather the cheese cloth around the almond meal and twist close.
Squeeze and press with clean hands to extract as much almond milk as possible.
You should get about 2-3 cups.
Refrigerate for up to 2-4 days.
Don’t throw away the left overs, you can use them in your oatmeal, smoothies and muffins.
You can also dry them in the oven on a low heat for about 2-3 hours. Dry almond meal can be used for baking goods.
